Godward Thoughts
"Remember that it is not hasty reading, but serious meditation on holy and heavenly truths, that makes them prove sweet and profitable to the soul. It is not the mere touching of the flower by the bee that gathers honey, but her abiding for a time on the flower that draws out the sweet. It is not he that reads most, but he that meditates most, that will prove to be the choicest, sweetest, wisest and strongest Christian." (Thomas Brooks)

Mr Machen sure does push all limits with this comment.
This summarizes the reason for the daily struggle between flesh and spirit. It also describes the beauty of the Kingdom.
That christ might pervade all humanity and human thought....
I have to say that I've never heard of or read any of Machen. Sounds like he's hardcore.
BTW, I see that you're reading "Reclaiming The Center". My pastor recently read that. How's it going for you, Doug?
Stellar quote. Evangelicals need to reclaim the intellectual dimension of our faith.
Joshua,
That's another book I just picked up for a class, We are going to start reading it in a couple of weeks. I hear it is very good. I'll keep you posted, and will probably end up with a few quotes from it on my blog too.
Doug
Hey Doug,
Where is your school located? I am not familiar with it? Also, what is your major?
Sorry for being so curious!
Hey Joshua,
The school I work for and attend is Trinity Law School and Trinity Graduate School. www.TLS.edu It is part of Trinity International University out of Deerfield IL. Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) is what we are most known for. I am currently working on my Master's degree in Communication and Culture. The name is a bit misleading since it is not a communication degree. The main focus of the program is how do we communicate the Truth of God to people in today's culture and how do we take it into the public square. We study a lot of theology since we need to know what truth we are taking, and we also study a lot of philosophy and worldviews in order to understand were the people we are talking with are coming from. It's a pretty interesting degree.
Thanks for asking,
Yay! Down with dualism! I love this quote because it encourages me to do everything as if serving the Lord not men.
