An Important Message About Sharing the Gospel From Penn of Penn and Teller (an atheist)
Labels: Evangelism, preaching, The Gospel
"Remember that it is not hasty reading, but serious meditation on holy and heavenly truths, that makes them prove sweet and profitable to the soul. It is not the mere touching of the flower by the bee that gathers honey, but her abiding for a time on the flower that draws out the sweet. It is not he that reads most, but he that meditates most, that will prove to be the choicest, sweetest, wisest and strongest Christian." (Thomas Brooks)

When I heard this the first time, I totally was not expecting this from Penn. He "gets it" better than many professing evangelicals do. Sad. Great post, though.
This is a real interesting video. Penn obviously was take aback by this "really good man" that he encountered.
I think this video speaks volumes about the obvious lack (in my experience) of "really good men" that non-believers, and those of us who have reached a point where we can no longer believe encounter (and have encountered).
On the other hand, I could rattle off the names and profiles of the many charlatans and Elmer Gantrys I've come across while in church, and during my time away.
I do think it is helpful to catch people where THEY are. Find out what is troubling them and then address that issue. Then you can put a good word in for our Lord.
I an not saying that no one is ever saved by receiving a tract or by listening to a 'canned presentaion' (Way of the master stuff..."have you ever stolen...have you ever lied, etc.), but I believe in getting to know someone and using the law (whatever it is that has got them)to bring them to the point where the gospel can be heard.
Thanks!~
